Hints & Tips on Measuring for Your Curtains

Measuring the Width Required: Ensure that you measure the track or pole not the window. If you have a curtain-track, measure from end to end as shown in the picture below. If you have a pole measure between the two finials. If the track as on overlap in the middle ensure you allow for this and include it in the overall measurement.

We recommend the following widths as this will give a good fullness to the curtains.

  • Upto 140cm (4'6'') track/pole A pair of 1 width curtains
    Upto 200cm (6'6'') track/pole A pair of 1.5 width curtains
    Upto 280cm (9') track/pole A pair of 2 width curtains
    Upto 340cm (11') track/pole A pair of 2.5 width curtains
    Upto 400cm (13') track/pole A pair of 3 width curtains

Measuring the Length Required. If you are measuring a curtain-track, take the measurement from the top so that the curtain will hide the track. Poles should be measured from the underside of the decorative ring to allow for the pole to be seen above the curtain. If measuring to the sill, measure to 1cm above, and if measuring to the floor, measure to 1cm above the carpet to allow for clearance.

How to measure windows for blinds

Inside Recess

How to measure for accurate fitting inside a window recess.

  • Use a straight ruler. We recommend using a steel ruler to measure for best accuracy.
  • Measure the width and drop in several places.
  • Allow for obstructions such as window handles and tiles etc.
  • Always give your sizes as width X drop in metric to the nearest cm or mm.

i.e. 120cm wide X 150cm drop ( 47 1/4 inches wide X 59 inch drop )

Confirm if sizes are full recess sizes or finished / cut sizes.

Outside Recess

  • Use a straight ruler. We recommend using a steel ruler to measure for best accuracy.
  • Deside how much you wish to stop overlap on each side, top and bottom.
  • Always give your size as width x drop in metric to the nearest cm or mm
